Teen fugitive is nabbed in N.H.

A troubled local teen was returned to prison and held without bail two weeks ago after he was apprehended in New Hampshire.
Judge John P. Wesley ordered Thomas J. Leonard, 18, held without bail after he denied violating his probation.
According to the Vermont Department of Corrections, Leonard had gone missing shortly after $750 bail was posted for him in June.
In April, Leonard pleaded guilty to multiple charges -- including larceny from a person and simple assault by physical menace -- for which he could receive up to 10 years in prison.
Judge Katherine Hayes had ordered a pre-sentencing investigation, but before Leonard could be sentenced, he fled.
Over the course of a year, Leonard racked up nearly a dozen criminal charges, starting in September 2003, when he was accused of an armed carjacking in Brattleboro.
Less than a month later, Leonard was charged with dispensing cocaine and heroin.
In March, Leonard pleaded guilty to the charges and received a two- to four-year suspended sentence.
But less than a month later, Leonard was picked up again, this time on trespassing charges, after he accompanied a minor while she committed a simple assault at a private residence.
Assistant Public Defender John Vorder Bruegge said Leonard was apprehended in Winchester, N.H., last week, while he was buying cigarettes at a store. He said Leonard had been living at a family member's residence, after requesting a travel permit from correction, in order to move to New Hampshire.
But Deputy State's Attorney David Gartenstein argued that Leonard had made no attempt to contact either the court or his attorney about his whereabouts. He noted that Leonard's mother had told corrections officials that he had moved to New York. After ordering him held without bail, Wesley said Leonard had proven to be a much greater flight risk than he was originally considered.
