CHESTER — A Menard Correctional Center inmate suffered non-life-threatening injuries after an altercation with his cellmate Wednesday. The inmate was treated at the medical unit before he was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, Illinois Department of Corrections spokesman Thomas Shaer said. The inmate was later taken back to the correctional center’s health care unit. No other inmates were involved and the incident “did not present safety or security issues for other inmates and at no time were any staff in a position when they could have been the target of inmate ag-gression,” he said. The offending inmate in the altercation had been at the now-closed Tamms Correctional Center in the past but was most recently housed in Pontiac Correctional Center, Shaer said. Read More. |
