Non-profit organizations facing inmate labor shortage |

SOUTH DAKOTA - A declining minimum security inmate population has some local organizations scrambling to find help. That's because the Department of Corrections provides non-profits with workers, but it's cutting back on the number of workers available. The Department of Corrections, the DOC, sent a letter to several non-profits in our area, warning them about a shortage of inmates. Just in the last year, the number of minimum security inmates at the state pen dropped by 15. It might not seem like much but some organizations are already feeling the pinch.
