JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) - Crafts with Conviction is celebrating a 10 years partnership with KidSmart - Tools for Learning. Since 2003, the Missouri Department of Corrections (DOC) has donated more than $500,000 worth of "Crafts with Conviction" items to KidSmart, a nonprofit organization that provides school supplies to underprivileged students in the St. Louis area. Prisoners who are a part of the Restorative Justice Program hand-make school materials, known as "Crafts with Conviction," as a way to give back for their wrong doings. No tax dollars are used towards these donations. At present, 15 DOC facilities donate materials such as coloring books, journals, flashcards, bookmarks, notepads, and educational games to the KidSmart program. Educators are encouraged to shop for the denotable items, along with other donated school supplies, at KidSmart's Free Store in Bridgeton Missouri. Read More. |
