ALBANY, New York — New York state prison employees who died while on duty are being honored. The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is holding a service in Albany on Thursday that will honor the dead and recognize outstanding employees. Survivors of the 42 employees who have died on duty since 1861 have been invited to the ceremony at the department's training academy. Also invited are survivors and hostages from the 1971 Attica prison takeover. Added to the list Thursday will be Casimiro Pomales, an Eastern Correctional Facility corrections officer who died in a 2011 Thruway crash involving a prison van. Read More. |
