Approaching court differently

INDIANA - Amy Dawson is very grateful. At 38 years old, the Chandler resident immensely appreciates her factory job, her recently discovered faith and her family, including granddaughter Emma.

“Your perspective is different when you’re a grandparent,” Dawson said. “You’re a little more patient, and other things don’t seem as important.”

In that way, being a grandparent — experiencing “a whole new love” — is a second chance, she added. And she is familiar with second chances.

Less than a decade ago, she was on the verge of losing everything, feeding an addiction to methamphetamine that had existed since she was a teenager. Despite having moments of clarity when she knew the drug was destructive, the addiction had a firm hold on her, she said.
