INDIANA - When Sara Hilsmeyer was growing up, her mother thought she would make a great accountant. She did love numbers, after all. But Hilsmeyer had another, much different plan for her future. “I don’t ever remember not wanting to be a police officer,” Hilsmeyer said. She admired her cousin, an Indiana state trooper who introduced her to the law-enforcement field. While the plethora of police shows on television didn’t exist then like it does today and women in the field were even more of a rarity, Hilsmeyer was certain of her calling. Now, she is a crime-scene technician in her 20th year at the Evansville Police Department, and at 42 years old, she still enjoys the career path she aspired to all those years ago. Read More. |
