WISCONSIN - A state union’s attempt to block a vote by an upstart group of corrections officers failed after a Dane County judge denied a motion to prevent the upcoming certification election. Dane County Circuit Court Judge Frank D. Remington denied a motion filed by the Wisconsin State Employees Union — AFSCME Council 24 — that would have postponed the upcoming certification election scheduled to take place by mail between June 28 and July 18. The election will allow state corrections officers to decide whether or not to join their former union (AFSCME), strike out on their own with the newly formed Wisconsin Association for Correctional Law Enforcement (WACLE) or continue to work without representation.
