Anoroy Loyuk was convicted last week, the Lincoln Journal Star said (http://bit.ly/1bl2bp8 ). State law bars corrections employees from having sex with inmates or parolees, even if both parties agree.

Loyuk and the woman met while Loyuk was working at the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln. When Loyuk was arrested last year, state Corrections Director Robert Houston said prison guards control nearly every aspect of inmates' lives and that such power leaves inmates and parolees legally unable to consent to sex with their overseers.

Loyuk's lawyer, Valerie McHargue, argued that the relationship didn't begin until more than a month after the woman was paroled and under the supervision of a parole officer. Loyuk and the woman saw each other at a grocery store and exchange greetings. Then they exchanged addresses, and he later wrote her letters.
