OR DOC addresses negative audit |

The agency that manages Oregon’s inmate worker program has requested an audit of itself from the Secretary of State’s office in response to an unflattering internal report released last week that found several conflicts of interest in agency contracts. At the same time, Department of Corrections Director Colette Peters said Oregon Corrections Enterprises, the inmate worker program, has been included in a department-wide review and restructuring, which she said should solve many of the communication and relational problems between the department and its partner agency. “Traditionally, we’ve lived in silos,” Peters said, and that’s about to come to an end. It’s time to expect the department’s divisions and OCE to all work collaboratively, she said. “OCE has had its trials and tribulations, but we have a lot to work with,” Peters said. The past six months have revealed a series of problems between the DOC and OCE, which is a semi-independent agency that is expected to be self-sustaining but whose administrator answers to the DOC director.
