ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) - A corrections officer in Orleans County took a sip of his drink and immediately felt burning in his throat. State Police and corrections officials are investigating the incident as an intentional poisoning. Prison officials at the Orleans Correctional Facility in Albion locked down one of the inmate dorms, after a corrections officer was stricken by what appears to be poison added to a sports drink. We contacted Mike Dildine, spokesman for the corrections officers' union, by phone. "Took a sip, noticed it tasted different, all of a sudden he became violently ill, severe pain in his throat. In the end, he was seen by medical," he said. Officials say the corrections officer bought his drink at a store off grounds, and when he started complaining of a burning sensation in his mouth and throat, he was taken to the nearest hospital in Medina. Dildine says medical staff at Medina Memorial Hospital treated the officer briefly, and then he was transferred by ambulance to Buffalo General. Read More. |
