Corrections officer admits smuggling phone |

TRENTON, NJ— A former corrections officer has pleaded guilty to smuggling a cell phone to an imprisoned Bloods gang leader in 2008. Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced last week that Brian C. Teel, 45, of Hamilton, pleaded to the second-degree charge of official misconduct July 25 before Superior Court Judge Robert C. Billmeier in Mercer County. He admitted he had smuggled a cell phone into the New Jersey State Prision, Trenton, to Clarence Scott, 39, the leader of the Nine Trey Hillside Beehive set of the Bloods street gang. According to a press release, Mr. Teel was paid $500 to smuggle the cell phone to Mr. Scott, who allegedly was continuing to control his gang by issuing orders from the prison, where he is serving a life sentence, including 35 years of parole ineligibility, for a 2002 murder conviction.
