Making the jail walls disappear at BCCF

CAPE COD — When some think about jail, they think it’s all about punishment. Others see it as a chance for rehabilitation. At the Barnstable County Correctional Facility (BCCF) in Bourne, the worlds of security and treatment staff are merging into one – all in the name of public safety.

BCCF is now entering its second year of a newly developed re-entry program with $348,000 from a Second Chance grant through the U.S. Department of Justice. The program goals are to rehabilitate inmates, to transition them safely into their communities, and to lower their risk of returning to crime. Barnstable County Special Sheriff Jeff Perry says it’s also saving the taxpayers money.
