Groups discuss jobs program for released inmates

PEORIA, IL - Two groups are in the early stages of creating a jobs program for minorities emerging from incarceration and are looking to city and law enforcement officials for guidance.

The Black Ministerial Alliance and Citizens for Equality hosted an informal meeting Tuesday with Peoria County State's Attorney Jerry Brady and at-large City councilmen Chuck Weaver and Ryan Spain to open the discussion.

Brady said the Illinois Department of Corrections has a recidivism rate of 51 to 54 percent - and the ability to find employment after release could cut down on the likelihood for a former inmate to commit another crime.
