| Former inmates accused of fabricating sex allegations in order to gain favor |

Two former Montgomery County (Pa.) prison inmates lied when they told authorities that a female correctional officer fondled or rubbed up against them in a sexual manner in the jail in 1999 and 2000, several other former inmates testified last Thursday. Louis Ciccarelli, William Green and John Marburger, all of whom once did time at the county jail, testified that onetime inmates Jasper DiSanto and Jason Mascione fabricated allegations against former officer Eileen Mayfield to curry favor with prison officials, to win work release or to win early parole. Ciccarelli and Marburger told defense lawyer Jeffrey Allen Sigman that DiSanto confessed to them in the jail's barbershop that he lied about Mayfield. "Some people can't do time. They'll do anything to get out of jail," Ciccarelli told the jury of seven women and five men that is hearing Mayfield's case. "This is nothing more than a scam to get out of jail," added Green. Ciccarelli, Green and Marburger testified they never saw Mayfield flirt or act inappropriately with any inmates at the jail. Last Wednesday, Mascione, 27, of Philadelphia, testified that Mayfield flirted with him and grabbed his buttocks while she escorted him along a deserted hallway at the Lower Providence facility in October 2000. |
