Pregnant jail escapee caught in Woodbury

A pregnant woman who scaled a 14-foot fence to escape from the Gloucester County (N.J.) Jail in East Greenwich was caught Friday after 15 hours on the run.
Gail Boden, 30, of Clayton, was arrested shortly before 9:30 a.m. at a home in Woodbury, about six miles from the jail, county law enforcement officials said.
Boden was captured without incident and taken to Underwood-Memorial Hospital in Woodbury to be treated for cuts believed to have come from razor wire on top of the jail fence, officials said. Boden, who is five months pregnant, underwent a physical evaluation and was expected to be returned to jail last Friday.
She was initially jailed for failure to appear in court after being charged with robbery, conspiracy and receiving stolen goods. Boden now faces an additional charge for the escape. She had been in jail for three days and now faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the robbery and conspiracy charges.
When asked how a pregnant woman could scale a 14-foot fence without being detected by officers, Gloucester County Director of Correctional Services Director Stanley Nunn said, "You can bet we're asking the same question."
Nunn added, "We're in the initial stages of investigation, and it would be premature to make any allegations of wrongdoing by staff members."
Three officers were on duty at the women's detention unit, which housed 30 prisoners when Boden got away around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday, Nunn said. Nunn said officers oversee prisoners in the yard and in other locations at the women's unit of the Gloucester County Jail.
