Former corrections officer running for Landis board |

LANDIS — Retired teacher and former correctional officer Dorland Abernathy is throwing his hat into the ring and is running for a seat on the Landis town board. Abernathy, 63, taught English, choir and math for more than 30 years. He also worked for 10 years at Central Prison and Piedmont Correctional Institute as a corrections officer.The south Rowan native said his priorities are to do what is right for the residents of Landis. Just a few months ago Abernathy spoke at a town meeting where he asked for a return to a time when residents respected one another. He said his other priorities are to focus on what is “necessary” rather than on “that would be nice.” Abernathy thinks people should remember “every cent spent by the town comes from someone’s pocket.” Read More. |
