Police, corrections officers raise money for Special Olympics

JACKSON, MI — Lyle Torrant Center and Kit Young Center students crowded the finish line, cheering and exchanging high fives with walkers, runners and bikers Thursday, Sept. 12 at the annual Jackson Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The event, which is held throughout the state of Michigan during the week of Sept. 7 through Sept. 14, raises money for Special Olympics Michigan.

“It’s an important event because it benefits Special Olympics and it’s such a nice cause for us to come together and support,” said Jackson County Undersheriff Chris Kuhl, who participated in the biking portion of the event Thursday. “You see the smiles on (the students’) faces and it means a lot to them and a lot to us, too.”
