Attica corrections officer remains hospitalized in wake of fight |

Three Attica Correctional Facility guards were injured in an outbreak of violence Wednesday, according to the union representing corrections officers. One corrections officer suffered multiple facial injuries and a concussion, and remains hospitalized in Erie County Medical Center; two other officers who came to the aid of their fellow officer were treated for injuries and released, the union said. State police who are conducting an investigation said the inmate who triggered the outburst may be charged. According to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, the incident began when an inmate responded to a “routine verbal inquiry” of a guard by punching him in the face – causing three fractures and a concussion. A second officer was bitten on his right forearm, and a third officer suffered a knee injury.
