Head Of Corrections Retiring

Nebraska’s Director of the Department of Correctional Services, Bob Houston, announced Monday he is retiring. Details on when he plans to step down have not been released.

“It has been my pleasure to serve the citizens of Nebraska through the Department of Correctional Services for so many decades of my life,” said Dir. Houston. “I believe in this department and the staff members who work diligently day in and day out to ensure the safety of our prisons and Nebraska communities. I can only hope my retirement will be as rewarding as my years of service to the State of Nebraska and the Department of Correctional Services.”

The Department of Corrections has come under fire in recent months. First in regards to a 28-year-old policy that allowed inmates to drive fellow inmates to work release programs. Houston ended the program following a fatal crash that killed a Lincoln woman. Most recently, the implementation of Good Time procedures and policies, in the wake of Nikko Jenkins' release. Jenkins is accused of murdering four people.
