| Youth Correctional Facility Back to Normal Operations |

Oregon Youth Authority says that around 8pm Sunday night officials began a search for contraband in the living unit of the Rogue Valley Youth correctional facility in grants pass. The facility, houses young men who are serving sentences for crimes from misdemeanors to felonies. Ken Jarin of the Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility says "these situations are rare in juvenile facilities and within OIA." Officials say 11 of the young men refused to allow officials to search their cells, became unruly and started damaging property in the living unit. The staff tried to gain control and called the Grants Pass Department of Safety and the Oregon State Police for assistance. Jarin says "throughout the incident staff made some very good decisions that were very helpful that helped us make sure that the youth and staff were during it, also the help from the Grants Pass Public Safety, also Oregon State Police were tremendously helpful." The inmates somehow barricaded themselves inside. All staff members were evacuated, except one who wasn't able to get out. Concerned for his safety he locked himself in the observation room in the living unit he was later evacuated by authorities.
