Sheriff: TV privileges help manage crowded Cambridge jail |

Letting pretrial detainees watch Red Sox games is a crowd control measure that the Middlesex sheriff said he uses to manage “volatile” jail life. Sheriff Peter Koutoujian was hit with criticism yesterday after Herald readers learned that Cambridge Jail inmates are watching Red Sox playoff games. The revelations came during a Herald jailhouse interview with the incarcerated Jared Remy, 34, son of former Red Sox player Jerry Remy, who said he’s been watching the games, although he said, “I’m not much of a baseball guy.” Koutoujian said convicted inmates don’t have television privileges.
