A Port Charlotte, Fla. woman who works as a county corrections officer was arrested Friday after her husband was found shot to death inside the couple's home, Charlotte County sheriff's officials said. Dispatchers got a call about a shooting at 22414 New York Ave., in Port Charlotte. When deputies arrived, they discovered Kathleen G. Hill, 31, had apparently shot her husband Shawn Hill, 32, said Charlotte County sheriff's spokesman Robert Carpenter. Shawn Hill was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 a.m. Detectives questioned Kathleen Hill on Friday afternoon and later placed her under arrest in connection with the shooting, sheriff's officials said. Kathleen Hill has worked as a corrections officer at Charlotte County Jail, 26601 Airport Road, since June 1999. Chief Deputy Maj. John Davenport suspended Hill with pay until formal charges are completed and the case can be reviewed Monday. As a corrections officer, Kathleen Hill was allowed to carry a gun if she received proper training, said Charlotte County sheriff's Sgt. Thomas Scott. |
