Department of Corrections escapee Ira Smith leads police, troopers on high speed chase |

A prison escapee led police on a chase across the Eastern Plains to Colorado Springs hitting speeds of more than 100 miles per hour on Thursday. The chase started as a routine traffic stop in Limon, according to KRDO-TV. Suddenly, the driver sped off. The TV station reported that officers and the Colorado State Patrol chased the driver more than 60 miles to the outskirts of Colorado Springs, where he hit a police car, jumped the median and hit another vehicle. The officer in the police car and the wanted driver, Ira Smith, were taken to the hospital. Both had minor injuries. Read More. |
