| Pentobarbital replaces propofol in Missouri executions |

The Missouri Department of Corrections has announced a new execution drug protocol, which will replace propofol. The department announced Tuesday that it will use pentobarbital for future executions, according to a press release. Previously, Gov. Jay Nixon postponed an execution, originally scheduled for Oct. 11, and ordered for a new execution drug, in regards to concerns raised for the drug also used for surgery anesthesia. Recently, the Missouri Society of Anesthesiologists opposed the use of propofol in executions. Europe has threatened to cut off the supply of the drug to Missouri if used in executions.
