Arpaio's policy on abortions causes controversy |

Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff Joe Arpaio says any woman locked up in Maricopa County, won't be taken to the clinic for an abortion. Sheriff Arpaio says he doesn't believe that taxpayers should be footing the bill to take pregnant inmates to abortion clinics, without at least a court order. The American Civil Liberties Union is now challenging Arpaio's policy of only transporting pregnant women when it's medically necessary. ACLU attorneys say that because abortion is a constitutional right, inmates shouldn't have to wait days, weeks or months for a court order. |
