Officers suspended in Taser investigation |

Two Department of Corrections officers have been suspended for 20 days as part of an ongoing investigation into the use of Tasers -- electrical stunning devices -- against inmates at the prison. The Guam Police Department, Department of Corrections and FBI are all investigating the allegations of prisoner abuse. Jeff Limo, special assistant to the director, said the department received a complaint about the use of the Tasers after the parent of an inmate reported the alleged assault to the Guam Police Department, which passed the information on to the prison. Limo said four inmates were treated by the prison's physician for injuries believed to have been sustained by the use of the Tasers. Officers aren't allowed to carry Tasers, he added, nor are they trained to use them. He said the devices are prohibited from the department. "We aren't here to punish inmates," he said. "We are here to protect the people of Guam." The inmates allegedly assaulted are residents of the prison's Post-7 unit, the facility's unit for inmates in protective custody. Read More. |
