Man sentenced to castration |

A man who molested five children, one as young as 4, has been sentenced to four life terms in state prison and the rare punishment of chemical castration. Kelly William Woods, 37, was convicted in August of six counts of sexual battery and four counts of sexual misconduct for incidents since 1997. Judge Thomas Kennon handed down the sentence Oct. 14. Woods' lawyer, assistant public defender Cliff Davis, said he would appeal. Although chemical castration has been ordered before, the state Corrections Department has never carried out the sentences. The order doesn't take effect until offenders are released, and the state can get civil commitment orders to keep sexual predators behind bars after their sentences run out. |
