A correctional officer is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed multiple times by an inmate at California State Prison Corcoran. The officer, who was not named, suffered puncture wounds to his neck, head and shoulder. Three other correctional officers were also injured in the Tuesday attack. Public Information Officer Lt. Anthony Baer said it happened around 3:22 p.m. while officers were escorting the prisoners from the yard back to their cells. Dan Felix, 35, broke free of his handcuffs using a makeshift key. He then lunged at the nearest officer, stabbing him over and over with a shiv. While other officers fought to get Felix under control, Steven Rivera, 25, joined the fray. He kicked one man before plunging into the scuffle. The fight left the officers with wounds to their wrists, backs and knees. Three were hospitalized along with the stabbing victim, who officials described on Wednesday as being in “good condition.” The combatants are now under scrutiny from the prison’s Investigative Services Unit.
