State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff said he sat down last week with Department of Corrections officials, including Secretary John Wetzel, to talk about the prison’s internal investigation of the incident.

Benninghoff was given a preliminary update on the status of the internal investigation during his meeting with Wetzel, but is still waiting for a final report of the incident. Still, Benninghoff said he came away from the meeting with confidence in the investigation.

“I think they have a very strong commitment to seeing this through in its entirety,” he said. “It’s not just window dressing. And more importantly, it could be a catalyst for a larger-scale corrections system overview.”
