$700,000 Grant Aims To Reduce Recidivism |

OREGON - Lane County has been awarded a $700,000 federal grant aimed at bolstering community re-entry programs for offenders leaving the state prison system. The money will be used to fund transitional housing, cognitive behavioral therapy, drug and alcohol treatment, sex offender treatment, mental health and other services — primarily through the local nonprofit agency Sponsors Inc. — with a focus on reducing recidivism. The funds are expected to provide assistance next year to 140 individuals: medium- and high-risk sex offenders, people with a history of substance abuse, people with mental illness, and women offenders who have children.
