Beebe: More Money Needed for Parole System |

Gov. Mike Beebe says changes made to the Department of Community Correction means more state money will be needed next year to address jail overcrowding. The comments came Monday after the completion of an administrative review of DCC by Arkansas State Police at Beebe's request. The 10-page analysis details the internal management workings of DCC at the time a parolee was allowed to leave jail despite numerous arrests while on parole. The parolee, Darrell Dennis, 47, now awaits trial for capital murder in the May shooting death of Forrest Abrams, 18, in Little Rock. After the arrest of Dennis, the executive director of the DCC retired abruptly and numerous policy changes were put into effect, including increasing the amount of parole revocation hearings.
