A correctional officer from Charlotte Correctional Institution was arrested Tuesday on several narcotics related charges, including the introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. On Tuesday, November 5, detectives arranged for the undercover purchase of four hydromorphone pills. During the operation, detectives saw a man -- identified as Brian Paul Mcavoy, 28 -- apparently sell narcotics to another man. The drugs that were exchanged between the two were recovered by detectives and identified as hydromorphone. During that investigation, detectives learned that Mcavoy was a correctional officer at Charlotte Correctional Institution, located south of Punta Gorda. Shortly before noon on Tuesday, detectives made arrangements to take Mcavoy into custody while he was at work. After they placed him under arrest, detectives found half of a white pill that was identified as hydromorphone in his wallet. The pill tested positive for containing an opiate. Prior to his arrest, Mcavoy had been working on the secure side of the correctional facility. Read More. |
