MDOC halts sending inmates to Alcorn County

The Mississippi Department of Corrections has temporarily stopped sending inmates to the Alcorn County Regional Jail.

In a letter from Commissioner Chris Epps to Sheriff Charles Rinehart, he says the facility violated state law and corrections regulations by allowing state inmates to leave the jail on passes.

Epps says the inmates were allowed the leave by the order of Rinehart.

State corrections officials have ordered the regional jail to stop the practice and implement a program to see that it does not happen in the future.
