| Corrections officer pleads guilty to drunk driving |

A Leelanau County Sheriff’s Department corrections officer arrived to work in "super-drunk" condition and promptly was arrested. Jeffrey Daniel Kassab worked as a corrections officer in Leelanau County for nine years and came to work at the jail drunk on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle with a high blood-alcohol level at his arraignment Friday morning, Leelanau Undersheriff Steve Morgan said. Kassab is suspended with pay. Sheriff’s officials will start an internal investigation into the incident on Monday. “He’s been a good employee and we will be reviewing those types of records, as well, as we enter into the internal phase,” Morgan said. Kassab, 40, worked in the Leelanau County jail and managed “the everyday goings-on inside the jail,” Morgan said, including bookings and general corrections work. Kassab, a Traverse City resident, had a blood-alcohol level of .24, sheriff’s officials said. Kassab arrived at work Wednesday night around 7:30 and ran into a sergeant who noticed Kassab smelled of alcohol and pulled him aside, Morgan said. Read More. |
