Inmate Charged with Attacking Officer During Riot |

State Law Enforcement Division agents have charged an inmate they say attacked a corrections officer during a prison riot last year. Brian Rashard Garris, 24, is charged with assault and battery first-degree, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, kidnapping, participating in a riot by prisoners, and taking of hostages by any inmate. On June 5th of 2012, agents say Garris was part of a group that rioted at the Lee Correctional Institute near Bishopville, a maximum security facility. All the inmates involved were housed in the Special Management Unit, where prisoners serving life-sentences are kept. Read More. |
