The state prison inmate who stabbed a corrections officer at Great Meadow Correctional Facility earlier this year has been charged with five felonies, including attempted second-degree murder.

Juan Diaz, 32, is accused of using on June 19 a homemade, eight-inch pick-type weapon to stab an officer in the head and abdomen. The officer suffered serious injuries but has recovered, according to State Police.
