| Inmate charged for attack on guard |

The state prison inmate who stabbed a corrections officer at Great Meadow Correctional Facility earlier this year has been charged with five felonies, including attempted second-degree murder. Juan Diaz, 32, is accused of using on June 19 a homemade, eight-inch pick-type weapon to stab an officer in the head and abdomen. The officer suffered serious injuries but has recovered, according to State Police. Police said Diaz hoped to be killed by other officers who came to rescue the officer he attacked, officials said. Diaz has pleaded not guilty and is being held in maximum-security Upstate Correctional Facility. Read More. |
