| Parents want probation office moved out of neighborhood |

New video shows a person of interest in last Thursday afternoon’s attempted bombing of a Department of Corrections Office in Nob Hill. The attempted bombing has sparked a new effort by parents whose kids attend a nearby school to demand the probation and parole office be moved now. Convicts go to the office to check in with their probation or parole officers. Most go in the morning before work, says DOC. But that’s right when kids are getting to school. Their parents are fed up and want this office out of their neighborhood. The state says that’s not an easy task. Jessica Fickes is glad her son Avery has a break from school this week, because it’s also a break from persistent safety scares. "It's awful to get a text from my child saying they're on lock-down again," said Fickes. Avery is a 4th grader at Monte Vista Elementary School at Monte Vista and Campus Boulevards. The 10-year-old was in his portable classroom Thursday at around 1:30 p.m. when police say someone threw two pipe bombs at the Department of Corrections Office across the street. "For two hours they were in the portable for two hours using the bathroom in a bucket because they were not allowed to, for safety reasons, to go to the bathroom," said Fickes about the “shelter in place.” Read More. |
