| Inmate suspected of slashing correctional officer |

Officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Alberto Cortez, 22, tried to kill the 40-year-old corrections officer by repeatedly slashing him with an inmate-made weapon. Officers who tried to help the corrections officer were then attacked by another inmate, officials said. The injured officer is a 15-year veteran of CDCR. He was taken to a hospital with neck injuries and is listed in fair condition. Read More. |
