| Gloucester County transfers $500K from animal shelter, senior services to corrections budget |

A $500,000 transfer to cover Gloucester County corrections department salary and wages was among routine county budget line item transfers authorized by the freeholder board this week. A total of $521,000 was transferred from salary and wage budgets for the prosecutor, senior services, the county animal shelter, the telephone operating expenses budget and a salary and wage adjustment line item. The funds were split with $21,000 transferred to information technology and a half-million dollars transferred to cover salary and wages for Gloucester County Corrections. The Gloucester County jail was closed on June 30 with its staff decreased by half. The remaining corrections officers were reassigned to transport the county inmates to be processed at the Salem County Correctional Facility and housed in Salem, Cumberland, Burlington and Essex county jails.
