Two members of the Aryan Circle -- a prison gang known as white supremacists -- have received life sentences on charges of continuing criminal enterprise involving methamphetamine after being convicted in July. Thomas Charles Samson and Michael Curtis Lewis were each given life sentences Monday. Samson proclaimed his innocence to the court in a prepared statement before sentencing. "First and foremost, I apologize to my family on behalf of the court for the injustice that has been done so far," Samson said. "I apologize on behalf of the court for the injustice that is about to done here today." U.S. Attorney Mark Roomberg responded, "The only injustice done was Mr. Samson trying to run the methamphetamine trade in Odessa. He tried to sell his poison." Also Monday, two other members of the Aryan Circle -- Leonard Duane Griffith and Michael Norris Martin -- were sentenced on methamphetamine charges. Griffith was sentenced to 30 years in prison and given 10 years probation. Martin was sentenced to 17 years and six months in federal prison and five years probation on release. All four men were also given 500 hours of drug abuse counseling, as well as education and job training. None are eligible for parole. |
