The Oregon Department of Corrections spent much of 2013 plagued by the results of a criminal investigation inspired by Rob Killgore, the former head of Oregon’s prison industries agency, who was fired shortly after the Department of Justice concluded its investigation. The investigation found no criminal wrongdoing; however, corrections Deputy Director Mitch Morrow ended up being reviewed by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission and filing a notice of tort claim that he intended to sue the state for “improper and illegal actions.” His tort claim also alleged that some employees had made “false and defamatory” statements during their investigation interviews. Meanwhile, Killgore filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against the Department of Corrections for wrongful discharge, discrimination and retaliation for whistle-blowing. Read More. |
