A corrections officer at Lowell Correctional Institute was arrested by an Ocala Police Department officer early Saturday morning for DUI, according to authorities. At 2:06 a.m., an officer pulled over a car in the 800 block of Southeast 36th Avenue and notified Officer Kyle R. Drawdy about the stop. At the location, Drawdy said he detected a strong odor of alcohol from the vehicle, and the driver’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot. The driver, 45-year-old Michael David Weiss of Ocala, told Drawdy he was a state correctional officer. Asked if he had been drinking, Weiss said he had had about six drinks and had been drinking since about 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m., officers said. Weiss agreed to perform a field sobriety exercise, which he failed, OPD said. Officers said Weiss underwent a breath test and the results were .210 and .205, which is more than twice the state’s legal limit of .08. Read More. |
