A former guard at Augusta Correctional Center is headed to prison himself after being sentenced Monday in a case where he smuggled marijuana and tobacco into the facility. Casey Forbes of Hot Springs was sentenced in Augusta County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to two charges of bribery of a public official. Forbes, who had been a corrections officer at the Craigsville prison for three years, was indicted by an Augusta County grand jury on July 22. Authorities arrested him two days later, records show. Rupen Shah, chief deputy Commonwealth’s attorney for Augusta County, said Forbes accepted bribes from an inmate. “He took $188 and $500 to bring marijuana and tobacco into the Augusta Correctional facility,” Shah said.
