Albany Transitional Center resident Bobby Smith was recaptured by the Georgia Department of Corrections Fugitive Task Force on Monday morning, officials with the Department of Corrections say. He was captured at 8:50 a.m. on Monday near Washington Street without incident, a spokeswoman with the GDC said. Smith, 54, had been on the run since leaving the downtown Albany center on Nov. 17. Convicted of murder in DeKalb County in 1987, he was just a few weeks away from his release when he disappeared. Officials with the GDC said he was taken into custody following his capture and transferred to Lee State Prison. Several agencies had teams participating searching both on the ground and with officers in the air, but were unable to find him into the evening hours. Read More. |
