A third lawsuit has been filed against the state Department of Correction over alleged incidents at the Delaware Correctional Center in Smyrna. Inmate Tim Ward claims that he was attacked and nearly beaten to death in the prison yard by another inmate with a history of violent and erratic behavior. Ward says no correction officers were monitoring the yard at the time. He says two other inmates had to stop his attacker. And Ward claims the department didn't give him adequate medical treatment. The law firm representing Ward has also filed suit on behalf of another inmate and is representing the prison counselor who was raped and held hostage by an inmate over the summer. |
