| Wake corrections officer to return to jail as inmate |

A Wake County corrections officer has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of an inmate in June. A jury found Markeith Council, 27, guilty of involuntary manslaughter Thursday in the June 4 death of Shon Demetrius McClain. He is sentenced to 90 days in the Wake County Jail followed by 12 to 24 montha suspended, supervised probation. Council will serve his sentence at the jail where he engaged in a fight with McClain, who died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck resulting in spinal and brain damage. McClain died 13 days after the incident. Wednesday, Council, told the court he had a conversation with McClain some time before the incident while Council was handing out sheets. Council testified, "McLain said, 'You almost shoved my [expletive] hand in this trap.' Well, I said, 'If you didn't want your hand in the [expletive] trap, get your hands out of the trap.'" Council said people started urging McClain, 40, to fight during the part the surveillance video shows. Council said he called McClain over. "I said, 'Don't let your friends boost you up, pump you up,'" Council recalled. "I said, 'This is not the place to be tough.'"
