| RI corrections officer charged with inmate assault |

A correctional officer in Rhode Island has been charged with misdemeanor assault after authorities say he kneed a handcuffed inmate in the ribs last July. State Police Capt. Kevin O'Brien says Jonathan Addison and other guards were escorting the inmate to a different part of the Adult Correctional Institutions facility when the alleged assault occurred on July 15. The inmate had been handcuffed after becoming agitated. O'Brien says while moving the inmate, Addison struck him in the ribcage with his knee. The arrest Wednesday followed a joint review by the prison’s internal investigation unit and state police. Read More. |
