Department of Corrections adopts new visiting rules |

Officers from the Federal Institute of Corrections of Aliceville donated gifts to hundreds of children Tuesday morning. The agency "adopted" Aliceville Elementary School several years ago. For the second Christmas in a row, corrections officers donated gifts to kids. "We're making sure that no none is left out, " said Laconya Williams, an executive assistant with the Correctional Institute. Each officer adopted a child. This year, each child wrote a wish list that had at least three gifts on it. "We just want them all to have something, whether it's one gift or two gifts or three gifts that they have put on their wish list," Williams said. This morning, they started handing out presents to about 350 kids, starting with first graders. The prison's warden called out the name of each individual child. Corrections officers simulated elves as they lined up and handed out gift after gift. Mary D. Windham called it a blessing for the group to give gifts to the children. "I think they're wonderful. I was here last year and they just brought so much toys," she said. She has two grandchildren in the fourth grade. She says they couldn't wait to come to school today. Read More. |
