Union: Officers hurt by inmates |

A pair of assaults by inmates sent two correction officers to local hospitals, according to a statement Wednesday from the union representing correction officers. The attacks occurred Monday at Coxsackie Correctional Facility and Saturday at Green Haven Correctional Facility, according to the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association. Around 12:45 p.m. Monday, Shawn Black, 28, an inmate from Erie County serving 12 years for weapons possession, became agitated when he found out he wasn't being transferred to another prison, said James Miller, a NYSCOBA spokesman. Black hurled a bag of linen to the floor and then punched a correction officer in the face, Miller said. Black then punched another officer who rushed over, Miller said, adding that Black kicked the second officer in the head when the officer fell to the ground. Read More. |
